Monotype “Listen! Only the wind can tell her story.”

This is a unique artwork created using a painting technique on a plate which is then run through a hand operated printing press.  Basically the ink is moved around the plate to create the image.  In this case the ink was also drawn into to create the lines around the face.  This image references the status of women in many societies,  those of the highly developed countries. as well as those less technologically developed.  The situation of women in Afghanistan in particular was in the forefront of my mind as I printed this and other images of the unheard/unlistened to.  Here the universal "she" is wearing a covering over her mouth signalling the fact that she is considered less than "he"; her words are unimportant and her place is behind.
