Breathe (1/5)

This is the first of an edition of five hand-pulled woodcut prints (1/5).  The image is of a woman I met in Beijing a number of years ago.  She had a wonderful face that spoke of years of living and experiencing the human condition.  She was shy about having her photo taken saying the lines on her face made her ugly but in fact she was a beautiful reflection of what it means to be human in a world where time makes all impermanent.  This idea of transience, impermanence, the magnificent and imperfect changes caused by the passage of time, can be found in all of my work.  In addition, the work celebrates the values expressed in the practice of yoga concerning the importance of breath to our physical and mental health.
