Transient

This is a woodcut print; the first in an edition of 3 on Japanese washi paper.  It shows a person transforming into an antelope.  Transformation is an essential element of the traditional values and customs found in the indigenous peoples of every country and nationality.  In this image I used the qualities offered by the woodcut technique to intensify the sense of movement and mystery as the horn being held by the person/shaman/medicine woman focuses and concentrates the desired change.  Often these changes were and may still be provoked in order to provide information to the tribe on where and how to find necessary game or medicine.
