Woman Transforming Into Impala 1/5

$175.00

#1 of an edition of 5 woodcut prints on mulberry (washi) paper 15.5″ x 21″.  $175.00 Can.

This is one in a series of 5 hand pulled woodcuts depicting a woman being transformed.  For this print I used the graphic quality of the woodcut technique to highlight the actively changing nature of the transformative experience.  The swirling lines on the face and horns express the surreal character and transience of the change.  The print is intended as a reflection of the importance a close relation to the natural world has to the daily lives and values of the aboriginal cultures.  Transforming into a creature who can positively impact physical and mental health is the normal and necessary work of the shaman, medicine man/woman in these cultures, clearly referenced in their art.
